all that i know is…
take me in. bring me up. make me see.
the blue is deep, the yellow is far, the green is here.
i’m falling, falling, falling.
let it hit me, let it move slow.
let it burst, let it be.

Echo stole my gaze during a recent morning run.
I was intrigued by the beauty and innocence of its face, then by its enormous impact, yet welcoming nature, and by its tranquility.
Jaume Plensa, the Barcelona-born artist who brought us Echo, makes monumental pieces feel approachable. The sculpture’s serenity and dream-like state is inspired by a young girl from Plensa’s neighbourhood and draws from en episode in Greek mythology of the nymph, Echo, who was punished to only ever repeat the thoughts of others.
He is known for art that invites people and aims to create a piece that the viewer can interact with, touching it to see something that only their fingers can read.
Plensa is also inspired by the human body, language and community. His art and installations are often comprised of different letters he puts together by intuition, fascinated that on their own they do not represent as much as they can when put together to create language, context and culture.
